Leading Ethiopia's green building movement
The Ethiopian Green Building Council (EtGBC) is a nonprofit organization established in August 2019 to promote sustainable development and climate-resilient construction in Ethiopia. We are the national platform for green building leadership — uniting professionals, institutions, and policymakers to advance environmentally responsible practice in the built environment.
As part of the World Green Building Council network, we work with more than 75 national councils toward a shared vision: a net-zero built environment by 2050.
Vision — ራዕይ
To lead the transformation of Ethiopia's built environment towards sustainability and zero carbon by 2050 — through our community network, collaboration with industry experts, market research, building certification, and a growing body of professionals.
Mission — ተልዕኮ
To advocate, educate, and enable sustainable building design, construction, and operation — promoting green principles, technologies, and certification systems that contribute to climate resilience and human well-being.
Our work directly supports Ethiopia's Climate Resilient Green Economy strategy, the updated Nationally Determined Contributions, and the forthcoming Long-Term Low Emissions Development Strategy — and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals:
Affordable and Clean Energy
Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
Sustainable Cities and Communities
